Thanks for this, for all I know, isolation is perhaps what everyone
feels...

Alan
Thank you for this, Alan. Yes, unless communally embedded the focus on one
or two of one's work is what one gets, at least while alive.Still, the
appreciation of your work is quite widespread though perhaps not in formal
media. It is a mystery to me why, as far as I am aware, you have never been
invited to perform at The Poetry Project, for instance. I think the New York
poetry community should embrace you.
I knew you admired Kathy Acker's work, but didn't know you collaborated and
once were personally involved.
Ciao,
Murat

Very interesting and enlightening article about the movie.Very cool also. Makes me curious about it in probably a voyeuristic manner. I have noticed that the sexual nature of some of your pieces has waned. I guess I never thought of you as married before Azure. it was an interesting insight into your work even back then. I have read many times about your work, but little really about your personal life through the years. I thought about you some today as I drove down to Mt Vernon NY to pick up some stuff. You have always seemed so comfortable in the cityscape and I am definitely not.

If you look at http://www.alansondheim.org/biog.txt - my life is pretty
much up there, not entirely. The sexual content has waned but some has
gone underground as well for personal reasons. It's been unavoidable. I
was married several times before Azure, this time it has already been
close to sixteen years and is permanent.

I think I'm more comfortable in cities than in the countryside, but my
health comes from an interest in nature anywhere, today a red-tailed hawk
in Brooklyn, ginko leaves, polypores... I do feel best when we're away
from the city, it's all tangled, contradictory -

Life IS tangled and contradictory. Those are the best ones. I don't think I would want to live a calm and predictable one. Life is messy and it's the bumpy ride that is the most interesting. it just goes to point out that you can't extrapolate from a small (has CM really been 20 years?) window into someone's life.

The tangling can of course lead to pain to others, and oneself, and
therein lies the rub, so many people are dysfunction - for myself, I
haven't been able to find stable employment (as a teacher or writer etc.)
at all... -

I can totally relate I haven't worked in computers in 6.5 years. The airplanes are building but it's tough havin9g people recognize it as a job and my schedule is always dynamic. Oh, dad will be home today, he can watch the grandkid.

that tends to be a real prejudice, I think, re grandparents, judging by
the ongoing portrayals on television...

some of it also is the act of saying "well if you don't watch him I'll have to pay someone". But I digress...
